Success for Angusta at the Hiiibrand International Design Awards, as the typeface wins its second competition.

We’re delighted to announce that our Angusta typeface has won its second award! Tasos Varipatis’ debut release with The Northern Block has earned a winning spot in the Typography Design category at the 14th Hiiibrand International Brand and Communication Design Awards.

The Hiiibrand Awards is a prestigious international design competition focused on brand shaping and design value. Since 2010, Hiiibrand has completed more than 30 professional competitions, attracting more than 30,000 participants from more than 100 countries. This forward-thinking competition represents industry authority and standards, symbolising high-quality brands and design practices.

This year’s competition attracted 1,198 submissions from over 40 countries. Renowned type designer, Erik Spiekermann, and Gerry Leonidas, Professor of Typography at the University of Reading, were part of the distinguished panel of six design experts, who meticulously evaluated each entry to ensure the highest standards of creative excellence were met.

Angusta has achieved incredible success in its first year. In October 2023, the typeface won the ‘Award of Excellence’ in the 14th Annual Typography Competition by Communication Arts, and was later featured in their January/February 2024 Typography Annual, which showcased the award-winners.

Tasos’ Angusta typeface is an elegant display serif best suited to large-scale typographic situations. Inspired by American wood type of the 19th century, it features an extra-condensed design with tightly spaced letterforms. High stroke contrast and sharp elongated serifs give the typeface a striking yet sophisticated appearance.

Senior Type Designer, Tasos, shares his thoughts on the recent win:

“Amazing news! I’m thrilled and incredibly excited about the award. What a fantastic way to start the day! Here’s to many more successes in the future.”

Thank you to Hiiibrand and this year’s jurors, and well done to all successful participants of the competition.
